How to set the Image Stabilizer. - LUMIX S-Series

Applicable Shooting modes

Applicable Recording modes

The camera can use both the in-body image stabilizer and the in-lens image stabilizer. Of the Dual I.S. modes that effectively combine two image stabilizers, this supports [Dual I.S.2]/ [Dual I.S.2] with high correction efficiency. Furthermore, during video recording, you can use the 5-Axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer that incorporates electronic stabilization.

Available image stabilizers (As of January 2019)

  • Image stabilizers that can be used will differ depending on the attached lens.

Using the Image Stabilizer

  • When using a lens with an O.I.S. switch, set it to [On].
  • When using lenses without a function for communicating with this camera, a message asking you to check the focal length setting is displayed after you turn on the camera. Correctly operating the image stabilization function requires that the focal length be set to match the attached lens. Set the focal length in accordance as prompted by the message. This can also be set using the menu.
    Note:
  • When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the camera shake alert icon [] may be displayed on the recording screen. If this is displayed, we recommend using a tripod, the Self-Timer or the Shutter Remote Control (DMW-RS2: optional).
  • We recommend turning off the image stabilizer function when using a tripod.
  • The image stabilizer may cause vibration or produce operational sound during operation, but these are not malfunctions.
  • When the following function is being used, the image stabilizer function is not available:
    • [High Resolution Mode]
  • You can display the reference point and check the camera shake status:
    • [Settings] → [Rear Display] → [I.S. Status Scope]

This can be set when using other manufacturer’s lenses with an image stabilization function.
When to Activate Always The image stabilizer is always operating.
Half-Shutter The image stabilizer operates when the shutter button is pressed halfway.
[E-Stabilization (Video)] Camera shake during video recording is corrected along the vertical, horizontal, roll, pitch, and yaw axes through the combined use of the in-lens, in-body, and electronic stabilizers. (5-Axis Hybrid Stabilizer)
  • When [E-Stabilization (Video)] is operating, [Dual 2 Stabilization] or [ ] is displayed on the recording screen
  • The angle of view may become narrower if set to [On].
[Boost I.S. (Video)] Increases the effectiveness of the image stabilizer during video recording. This effect can help provide a stable composition when you want to perform recording from a fixed perspective.
[Focal Length Set] When using lenses without a function for communicating with this camera, manually set the focal length.

  • Operation modes that can be used will differ depending on the used lenses and on [Body(B.I.S.)/Lens(O.I.S.)] settings.
  • [Panning (Auto)] is not displayed when using other manufacturer’s lenses with an image stabilization function with [Body(B.I.S.)/Lens(O.I.S.)] set to [ ]. Set to either [Panning (Left/Right)] or [Panning (Up/Down)] to suit the panning direction.
  • When using lenses with an O.I.S. switch, the camera’s operation mode cannot be set to [Off].
  • When the following functions are being used, [Operation Mode] switches to [Normal Stabilizer]:
    • [Video Rec.]/[6K/4K PHOTO]/[Post-Focus]
