You can set light sensitivity (ISO sensitivity). With the default settings, you can set ISO100 to 51200 in 1/3 EV increments. The range that can be set will differ depending on the functions used.


Setting the light sensitivity

  1. Press [ISO].
  2. Select ISO sensitivity.
    • Rotate the front, rear or control dial to navigate to your selection.
    • Selection is also possible by pressing [ISO].
  3. Confirm your selection.
    • Press the shutter button halfway.

[AUTO] The ISO sensitivity is automatically adjusted according to the brightness. Confirm ISO sensitivity by pressing the shutter button halfway.
  • Still Recording: Maximum [ISO6400]*1
  • Motion Picture Recording: Maximum [ISO6400]*2
For models DC-S1, SC-S1H: [100] to [51200] The ISO sensitivity is fixed at the selected value.
  • For model DC-S1, DC-S1H: You can extend the ISO sensitivity range in between a lower limit of L.50 and an upper limit of H.204800 by setting [Extended ISO] to [ON] in the [Custom] ([Image Quality]) menu.
  • For model DC-S1R: You can extend the ISO sensitivity range in between a lower limit of L.50 and an upper limit of H.51200 by setting [Extended ISO] to [ON] in the [Custom] ([Image Quality]) menu.
For models DC-S1R: [100] to [25600]
  • *1 Default setting. The upper limit can be changed with [ISO Sensitivity (photo)].
  • *2 Default setting. The upper limit can be changed with [ISO Sensitivity (video)].

Notes:

  • Higher ISO sensitivities enable faster shutter speeds even in dark places, so camera shake and subject blur can be prevented. However, higher ISO sensitivities also increase the amount of noise in the recorded images.
  • When the following functions are being used, the ISO sensitivity that can be set is restricted:
    • [High Resolution Mode]: Up to an upper limit of [ISO3200]
    • [Filter Settings]: Down to a lower limit of [ISO100], up to an upper limit of [ISO6400] (The lower limit changes to [ISO400] when [High Dynamic] is set).
    • [Multiple Exposure]: Down to a lower limit of [ISO100], up to an upper limit of [ISO6400]
    • [Standard(HLG)] / [Monochrome(HLG)] / [Like2100(HLG)] in [Photo Style]: Down to a lower limit of [ISO400]
      • For model DC-S1R: [Standard(HLG)] / [Monochrome(HLG)] in [Photo Style]: Down to a lower limit of [ISO320]
  • For models DC-S1, DC-S1R:
    • You can set upper and lower limits for ISO auto when taking pictures:
      • Press [MENU / SET] → [Still Recording Menu] → [Image Quality] → [ISO Sensitivity (photo)]
      • Press [MENU / SET] → [Motion Picture Recording Menu] → [Image Quality] → [ISO Sensitivity (photo)]
    • You can change the intervals between ISO sensitivity settings values:
      • Press [MENU / SET] → [Custom Menu] → [Image Quality] → [ISO Increments]
    • You can change the operation of the [ISO] button:
      • Press [MENU / SET] → [Custom Menu] → [Operation Menu] → [WB / ISO / Expo. Button]
    • You can set the upper limit for ISO auto on the ISO sensitivity settings screen:
      • Press [MENU / SET] → [Custom Menu] → [Operation Menu] → [ISO Displayed Setting]
