How to Sync GPS Data from Your Smartphone to Your Camera

Note: Wireless (Bluetooth®) connectivity is required

Your smartphone can transmit its location data to the camera via Bluetooth, allowing the camera to record while simultaneously embedding the acquired location information.

Preparation

  1. Make a Bluetooth connection to the smartphone.
  2. Navigate through the camera's menu to the following:
    • [Menu] > [Setup] > [Bluetooth] > [Location Logging] > [ON]
    • The camera will enter a mode where location information can be recorded and [GPS] will be displayed on the recording screen.
  3. Take pictures on the camera.
    • Location information will be written to the recorded pictures.

When the displayed [GPS] is semi-transparent

Location information is not acquired, so data cannot be written. Positioning with the GPS on the smartphone may not be possible if the smartphone is in a location such as a building or a bag. Additionally, the camera may need to be reconnected to your smartphone.

  • Disconnect your camera from your smartphone, ensure location services are enabled (consider turning them on / off again), and then re-connect your camera to your smartphone.
  • Move the smartphone to a location where positioning performance can be optimized, such as that offers a wide view of the sky, to try positioning.
  • Refer to the operating instructions of your smartphone.

Notes:

  • Images with location information are indicated with [GPS].
  • Be sure to pay special attention to the privacy, the likeness rights, etc. of the subject when you use this function. Use at your own risk.
  • The smartphone battery drains faster while location information is being recorded.
  • The location information cannot be written in the following cases:
    • Motion pictures recorded in [AVCHD] format
