How to use the Steam function on a Panasonic Rice Cooker or Multi Cooker

If your model is not listed refer to the operating instruction for your model.


Model SR-AFM186

  • If you wish to steam while cooking other recipe, please make sure you choose rice cooking function.
  • For longer steaming time (over 40 minutes), add more water to avoid dry heating. ( Cooking chart )
  • The time shown in the display is the remaining time after the water inside the pan is boiled.
  • Do not put anything in the inner pan that would block the hole in the Inner Lid.

When steaming:

Preparation

  1. Add suitable amount of water into the pan.
  2. Put the steaming basket.
  3. Put the foods to be steamed.
  4. Close the outer lid.

A.  Press   key to select “Steam” function.

  • The selected function flashes.

B.  Press    key to set the cooking time.

  • Every time the [ + ] or [ - ] key is pressed, the cooking time will increase or decrease in 1 minute  interval.
  • Press and hold the [ + ] or [ - ] key to quickly add or subtract  time.
  • The cooking time for the last time can be memorized. How to set cooking time.

C.  Press start key to start cooking .

  • After water boils, remaining time is shown in 1 minute decrements.

D.  After the buzzer rings, cooking finishes, the function will automatically turn to keep warm status .

  • Keep Warm function will affect taste, press [ Cancel/Off ] key.
  • The steaming basket is very hot at the time, please remove carefully. 

Model SR-AFM187

  • If you wish to steam while cooking other recipe, please make sure you choose rice cooking function.

  • The steaming basket is very hot at the time, please remove carefully. 

Model SR-CN108, SR-CN188

  • Add the required amount of water.
  • Place the steam basket into the inner pan as shown. null
  • Place foods to be steamed into the steam basket.
  • Close the outer lid.
  • Correspondence between the amount of water and time of steaming.

Operations

  1. Press  [ Menu Select button to select Steam function  (for SR-JMY108, 188 Orange LED and for SR-CN108, SR-CN188 Red LED) . The [ Start ] indicator and [ 10  min] blinks (as the default cooking time for Steam function).
  2. Press  [◄] or [►]  button to set the cooking time as your desire
    • You can set the cooking time from 1 to 60 minutes (1 minute increment).
    • Keeping the button pressed will make setting faster.
  3. Press  [ Start button .
    • The indicator of the "Menu" and the "Timer" turn on. After water is boiled, the LCD display will show remaining time in 1 minute decrement. 

When Cooking is Over

  1. Press the off    button .
    • When cooking is over, the electric rice cooker beeps and automatically switches to the Keep Warm function (The start  indicator turns off and the keep warm  indicator lights up automatically). However, we do not recommend using the Keep Warm function as it may affect the taste. Press the off  button to exit the Keep Warm function and unplug the power plug.

Important Information

  • After boiling and complete evaporation of water, the electric rice cooker automatically switches off.
  • If you want to abort steaming during cooking, press off  button.
  • When steaming food while cooking rice, it’s recommended to use Jasmine, Multi Grain or White Rice function with maximum amout of rice (in measuring cups).
  • Do not open the outer lid while cooking. (Cooking result may not be satisfactory).
  • Do not block the hole of the inner lid with food.

Model SR-JMY108, SR-JMY188

  1. Press the Menu Select button to select a menu.
  2. The menu with the indicator on is selected.
    • When selecting “ Steam ”, set the cooking timer.
  3. Press the Left arrow or Right arrow button to set the desired cooking time.

    • * Countdown of the steam setting time begins when the Rice Cooker starts releasing steam.
  4. Press the start button.
    • Once the rice is cooked, the program switches to the keep warm function automatically.
    • Using the keep warm function is not recommended for "Steam”.
    • Please press the off button to turn off the keep warm function.

Model SR-JN105, SR-JN185

  1. With the measuring cup provided, put 2 cups of water into the pan.
  2. Place the Steaming Basket on the Pan. null
  3. Place the pan into the body. null
  4. Place food into the steaming basket. (Place the food in seperate dish if required)
    • If the outer surface of the pan is wet, it may cause a crackling noise when the rice cooker heats up. This may damage the rice cooker, so make sure that it is in dry condition before use.
    • Do not put too much food as the outer lid may not be closed properly.
  5. Close the outer lid until it clicks. Please make sure that the steam cap and the inner lid is properly attached. Attach the instrument plug to the rice cooker socket and plug the power plug into the power outlet.
  6. Press the switch button down to start the cooking function. The cooking indicator will light up, indicating that steaming has been started.
    • If the outer lid is not securely closed, steaming efficiency will be affected.
    • Do not plug in until just before it starts to steam.
    • if the pan is not placed in the body correctly, the switch button cannot be engaged when pressed down. null
  7. Steaming period is done manually by checking the condition of the food from time to time.
    • This rice cooker will automatically switch to keeping warm when the water inside the pan becomes empty.
    • The keeping warm function continues until the power outlet is disconnected.
    • Open the outer lid slowly to avoid water dripping out from the outer lid.
  8. When steaming is completed, turn off the rice cooker by disconnecting the power plug from the power outlet.
  9. Take food out, followed by steaming basket, and finally pour out the water from the pan.

Note:

Please be careful with the steam coming from the steam cap before opening the outer lid.

When rice is cooked while steaming food, do not cook over the suggested measurements in the table below and do not open the outer lid until the rice is cooked.(it is better to select the food that has a steaming time similar to the time for cooking rice.)

  5. Do not put too much food as the outer lid may not close properly.
  6. Close the outer lid, press the “MENU” button to highlight “STEAM” on the LED display, the indicator light will flash in a direction. Press START to start cooking.
  7. The indicator light will flash in a clockwise direction before boiling, beeps are heard after boiling and then the 15-minute countdown appears.
  8. When cooking is completed, the display will indicate “0000” at which time the multicooker will automatically switch to the keep warm mode.

Model SR-ZS105, SR-ZS185
